If I had to describe my style I would say it's a mix of coastal, transitional, traditional, modern farmhouse and French cottage. But seriously, who am I kidding? I am not even sure I really know what those words even mean.
After trips to Watercolor, Florida and the French Quarters in New Orleans, we really fell in love with the homes there. We were drawn to the front porches, courtyards, French doors and gas lanterns. Those attributes quickly turned into must haves for our home.
Rather than going full custom, I thought we could save money by finding an existing floor plan online and make small modifications to it to better fit our lifestyle. I started searching for existing plans online but just couldn't find something which I absolutely loved. It then occurred to me to search for architectural design firms which designed homes along 30A.
We stumbled upon an amazing architect firm based in South Carolina. I had so many questions as I was searching for the right floor plan. I do realize all these firms are only a phone call away, and as silly as it sounds, that just seemed like a lot of effort at the time. I really appreciated their FAQs, it answered almost all of my questions without me initiating a real conversation. In fact, we did all of the modifications and correspondence via email. The only time I spoke with anyone was to actually pay my invoice! This isn't to say this is the only way they operate, but this is what worked best for me.
We adored the "Gibson". It was complete with front porches, a courtyard, and ALL of the French doors you could ask for. As the name suggests, it was designed for the Gibson family. Admittedly, I did everything I could to find more pictures of the original home. I did some stalking on Instagram and Pinterest and as it turns out, the home was featured in www.housebeautiful.com and belongs to interior designer Michelle Prentice of www.prenticeinteriors.com. Her husband is...(STAHP it!). I probably know more than I should about this poor family as I desperately searched for photos of their home. All I can say is they have wonderful taste.
I'll share more of the modifications we made on a future post.
